While most of our classes are given in person, we are dedicated to offering fantastic online classes for students who want to continue their studies once they return to their homes, as well as for others who want to take up studying without having first visited us.
CLASSES: We offer one-on-one classes online through a variety of interfaces, according to the student’s preference. As always, we pride ourselves on catering to the specific needs of our students.
While many schools offer hourly classes, we’ve heard from numerous students that they find that when they only take one online class per week, they rarely think about Spanish the rest of the time. Thus, we’ve decided to not only offer hourly classes for students, but have also developed a monthly model with continued student-teacher interaction to give students more contact with Spanish throughout the week that includes daily homework.
Additionally, we can offer long-standing specialty classes or shorter versions for people interested in focused study. See below for a more complex discussion of our offering in literature, the arts, Mexican slang & inclusive (feminist or queer) Spanish, and medical Spanish.
TYPES OF CLASSES:
We offer classes by the hour and by the month.
By the hour: Pay for classes by the hour online and set your schedule with us. We can book a standard day for your classes, or if your schedule is more varied, you can let us know each week when you would like the classes, and we can set them up for you then.
By the month: Each monthly subscription includes one weekly online one-on-one class as well as contact with the teachers throughout the week, including 5 days of short homework assignments per week as well as email correspondence with the teacher.
GENERAL SCHEDULE: We are flexible and will work to meet your scheduling needs. Because we often offer group classes from 9am-12pm (Central time in Mexico), we sometimes have trouble offering classes during these times, but will try to find a solution.
In general, we make our schedules for the week the weekend before. If possible, we ask that you let us know the weekend before if you will not be able to take classes at your usual time so we can reschedule it that week. For private class cancellations, we ask that you give us at least 24-hour notice, or we will have to charge 65% of the usual price for the class. For online monthly classes, if you cancel with 24-hour notice, we will do our best to use the month to accommodate any missed classes. With less than 24-hour notice, we will do our best to add 20 minutes extra to any class you have available that month if possible.
MATERIALS: We can use Zoom, Skype, Google Hangouts or WhatsApp to deliver the lessons and will send you the materials you need electronically, either through email or other online forums. We ask that you have a pen or pencil, a notebook, and a dictionary, bilingual for lower levels and monolingual for high level students. (You can download them on your phone; we highly recommend the free SpanishDict for its fairly extensive collective of slang. For a monolingual dictionary on your phone, the Real Academia Española offers a free version if you have internet).

ONLINE SPECIALTY CLASSES:
Below we’ve listed some of our themed classes that are usually organized in one- or two-week intervals for students at the school. We are happy to organize short- or long-term study for students online based on these themes, and we can design specialty classes that fit your needs.
We have many teachers who collaborate with us at the school who can teach these specialized classes, and if we don’t have someone specifically who can do it, we also know many people in the city who are more than capable, so we can search for other guest teachers that would be better prepared to teach the themes you’d like want to study. Just let us know what they are!
LATIN-AMERICAN LITERATURE & POETRY
Here are some of the themes we offer:
○ Forgotten Women Authors During the Latin-American Boom
○ Women Writers from Mexico
○ Latin-American Poetry
○ Literature from the Latin-American Boom
○ The New Mexican Novel
○ Latin-American Short Stories
While these themes are set-up for two week study, we can offer long-standing literature classes for interested students.
INCLUSIVE, QUEER, & OTHER IDIOMATIC SPANISH
While we offer our standing weekly workshop, Playful Spanish, we are happy to offer personalized classes in these themes for students who want more time with these themes or more explanations (except for the first day, the workshop requires a relatively high level of Spanish), or those who wish to learn more about these themes in more depth.
Chichis Glam teaches the class on Inclusive & Queer Spanish (intermediate and high levels)
Goyo teaches the class on Albures, as well as others about idiomatic phrases, and the use of Chingar, and other slang (for high-level students only)
Other teachers, including Marco and Miguel can teach idioms & sayings, chingar and other ways to curse in Spanish, basic slang, etc. (levels depend on the theme, but these teachers work with more elementary and lower-intermediate levels)
For online classes, we can develop personalized versions of classes on these topics. Just let us know what your interests are along these lines!
ART, FILM & CULTURE
Themes we offer include:
○ Contemporary Art in Oaxaca (can include a walking tour)
○ Contemporary Art in Mexico & Latin-America
